I saw Leon Russell perform in Melbourne about two weeks ago at the Palais Theatre on a bill with Little Feat. It wasn't a great show Leon is still masterful at the keyboard but his singing voice was not up to scratch, he started off with Delta Lady but tended to veer of course a little, there was no consistency to the set list. He did a lot of covers, especially early rock and roll stuff and his band for the most part kept the groove really tight. It would have been good to see some more material from his studio albums but perhaps they weren't big sellers here so maybe he thought he needed to entertain the crown a little more with familiar material, even if it wasn't his own! Still I'm glad I got the chance to see him perform live.
